[applause] president obama said it over again. if you like your insurance plan you could keep it. the health care act will not change that. millions of americans who are buying limited coverage are receiving letters after all. the president's response. >> if you're getting one of these letters shop around in the new marketplace. you will get a better deal. >> a lot requires that health insurance not cover hospital,
3:02pm
maternity, mental health, and prescription drugs. >> if insurers decided is a lawgrade we said under the you have to replace them with quality, conference of coverage. to thenot tell that american people to begin with? wrecks that is a good question. of good questions. i do not think there is an answer. it obviously was not true. that is it. why put yourself behind the all like this? wrecks it was a campaign and a good slogan for the campaign. for 97% of people it is true but it is not for the three percent and we are hearing from them and it is a big embarrassment for the white house. >> when did he know it was not true? that goes to the larger question about the quality control in the white house.
3:03pm
i could understand if you had a statement like that you would believe it is the case. him it is notd true completely so who gets to him, who pulls his coattail when something is getting off track? >> no one. isolatedlear he is an president. you try to build in some way to work around that and obama has oneowed the circle so no has a clue. this happens again and again on spine, foreign-policy issues. he seems to be the last man to know. >> have you seen the latest poll? 42%. at 63% want to replace their own
3:04pm
member of congress. the highest number ever recorded going back to 1982. peter hart said this is -- howard said this is a howard eel moment. moment. bute have seen the debate the american public have seen some ugly months in washington. down byrnment gets shut the republicans, that makes him mad. the issue goes away and all of a sudden they look at obamacare and the president not telling the whole truth and that infuriates them even further. i remained skeptical that even though 63% or 67% say throw the bums out including my own that this will happen. let's face it. are alwaysion rates in the 90 percentile. we are more likely to see that happen again unless we have a
3:05pm
waves andave seen the only way we get to a wave where one party gets the brunt of the anger is if the government shuts down again. >> i think she makes very good points. that 63% number. throw them all out being the highest ever. andher than it was in 2010, 2006 when the democrats replaced the republicans in the house of representatives. you can see that building. we have people right now, american voters who are despairing of democracy and essentially saying to both sides compromise. >> you can make it worse.
3:06pm
if you kept the democrats, you could get control of the house, people are so mad you could have a wave election and vote them out of the house and get control. that makes the democrats want to not come from is at all, to want to grind down republicans and stick to their issues. will have ammer, we chance to see that wave. politicians have a keen sense of peril. at this point host of them know that something politically dangerous is out there. we will see some adjustments. >> the secretary of health and human services said they would have this obamacare website figured out i the end of november. -- by the end of november. if she does not they are indeed cotton. -- deep cotton.
3:07pm
>> they have set the date and if it is not correct in functioning, you have more than disillusionment, you have a real fury. i will say this, i do not pretend to be objective about her. it was so refreshing to hear someone say i am accountable. >> i agree. it was refreshing. if you look into it she also did not know anything. she said i was as surprised as anyone else. either that is not true or there is something fundamentally wrong that the head of the department is caught by surprise by this. >> inside the white house there is a health care policy person. someone had to be tracking this kind of thing. will the rollout be ready? sayfor that person to not we are on track or off track or
3:08pm
call the secretary of hhs. >> surely somebody new. >> they knew but no one has been more singularly responsible. they were a lot of people who were part of building up but no one was at the top. now we have someone at the top and what is more likely to help the administration at this thing together is they are bringing in real pros. they have a loaner from google and from oracle. these people know what they are doing, they should have been there in the first place. >> speaking of google. is the federal government watching question mark wrecks it is more important that we defend this nation and take the beatings than it is to give up a program that would result in this nation being attacked. >> they have taken a lot of
3:09pm
beatings. that is the mindset of general keith alexander emma the director of the nsa. the nsa broke into the servers accordingand yahoo! to edward snowden. new job.und a general alexander said he will be illegal for the nsa to break in to any new bases but what if they tap into [inaudible] cable? is do we have a rogue agency in our hands are not? this goes back to our previous discussion of who is minding the store. we have the director of national knowligence, what does he and when did he know it and when did they tell the president they are instructing on foreign
3:10pm
readers? or tell't he tell them the president about the scope of the nsa activity if the director of intelligence new about this. the commander- in-chief in the dark on things like this. you cannot do it. >> there is a long traditional of possible denial. time, tremendous pressure to provide goodies. presidents complaint i have -- there's nothing in here that i have not already read in "the new york times." where are you going to get the special goodies? are are showing they meaningful. >> the president said we would not listen in. would you listen in on
3:11pm
angela merkel? president -- >> they are not listening to her conversations. ata thatrt of the mega d is coming in and they scan it for what they call selectors which are indicators of trouble. --y are not listening to her that, i got some political gossip. >> i would be surprised if they did not target other heads of state. what about thee, countermeasures of their own security services? -- she is they
3:12pm
repository of the crown jewels. jealous because they do not have the capability. >> the story this week is not angela merkel. real story is there are powerful forces arrayed against the nsa. google. apple, yahoo!, you can mess with the french and the spanish but do not mess with silk hunt valley and that it -- silicon valley. that to me is the story. >> we have these big headlines and they go away and went to stand f -- we understand that there is more stuff to come. how accurate is the reporting on this?
3:13pm
>> "the washington post" has been clear about what they have released. we have seen them do one story after another with months in all indications are they have done some good reporting. they have got -- the white house is not denying their story. silicon valley was furious when they found out "the washington post" had gotten this. history of a long relationships. [inaudible] >> they are not just shoving it out there. >> i do not think we can leave
3:14pm
this without getting the question answered, how could ged who who has a bounced in and out of community colleges go into the cia and get a posting at another job as a contractor and making $200,000 a year and get access to the crown jewels? >> they need millions of computer gigs to do this. >> there was a story this week about security clearances on the people who went into the navy yard. the guy who went into the navy yard and shot everybody else up. emma as a private firm contractor doing the investigation. >> the same firm that cleared snowden cleared the navy yard. >> we will close the barn door. create more secrets and
3:15pm
security. i do not think what we need is more secrets. the sky was hired -- this guy coming outhe was not of some ivy league school. he at the test and whatever else you say about him he left with a lot. he knew -- >> the hacker community is by and large people like him. >> i do not know how he got hired. there were some glitches in his background that somehow they missed. talk about that. my food stamps do not last the whole month. is a mississippi food stamp recipient. their benefits
3:16pm
reduced. that would be a reduction of $36 a month for a family of four and if the house has its way there would be more cuts coming. >> i wish some of those could come with me to my neighborhood safely. buy what they buy. about not talking extravagant items. people are trying to get some food on the table. no kids -- there aren't no -- there aren't anybody living high on the hog. >> this is not a cut as we think normally. there will be cuts of the traditional sort coming.
3:17pm
this one is an increase in food stamp payments. it was included in the stimulus bill. and so that five percent bump up is going away. there is no fight to keep it. one bill put in by democrats but they could not get enough support to go on the floor. this was a bipartisan agreement to let this 5% cut going to place and there could be more coming later. >> in the farm bill. >> what we have copper negotiations. >> the only hope is the supermarkets that will suffer because of this. their voices.e -- poor cannot be heard people cannot be heard. topsy way grew like beyond expectations. i am not sure why that was. is exactlyink that
3:18pm
right. now what you think is more than that. two dollars and $.40 a day, is there more -- an effort to scam? broadened the use of it -- got to get a quick question here. there was talk of replacing joe biden with hillary clinton. >> it has to be considered. in 2011 president obama was in terrible shape. h consideredt, bus
3:19pm
getting rid of dan quayle and getting colin powell. but they were thinking it raises questions about my initial judgment in choosing a person. >> i agree with that. but we have heard since then is it ever got to the president for serious consideration but it would have looked like weakness and disloyalty. >> this goes way back. >> we talk about congressional gridlock here occasionally, it occasionally endlessly. on thursday senate republicans got together to block the nomination of former congressman mel watt. was summa cum laude and
3:20pm
wh a cum laude. why are these people not qualified? ask theould have to republicans. the votes are there to confirm her. >> people are angry, they are talking about the nuclear option. d.c. circuit is one of the most important circuit and there are three judges who have been held up. it is not individual judges they're going after some much as the importance of the position. that circuit handles all the regulations coming out of the government. they do not want to have good judges of particular persuasion in that circuit. that is why they had this blockage.
3:21pm
with mel watt it is a policy question. those who do not like a possible aggressive housing administration they will push republicans to block fat and that is what is going on. >> how are you getting anything done? >> they will cut a deal, that is what they did last summer we had a similar showdown over appointments and in that case i think i would rather be the judicial candidate that mel watt. i think when it came to the housing appointment for mel watt that is a fundamental policy difference. you have conservative groups say they will -- they are for it. cited -- decided to stand firm. on the judicial appointment, the kind of cases that court gets, it is 3-3 and they have retired judges comment.
3:22pm
the republicans are concerned if obama gets an appointment that will tilt the court and that court also is a spear to the u.s. supreme court. chief justice roberts was on that court so that is another reason that judicial appointee to that court, they are very sensitive. >> are we getting closer to the day will -- where they will blow up the filibuster in change the rules? >> it it would -- it would only be on administrative. one thing straight about mel watt. this would be the first time in 160 years that a member of congress had been denied confirmation by theene. outrageous. at the same time that fannie mae is taking on the nine biggest banks for having interest rates
3:23pm
[inaudible] mel watt is the person to do it. >> senator lindsey graham was talking about blocking other nomination including yellin's. --[inaudible] section where they'll. >> you have senator graham hall talking about holding up the yellin nomination. this is a bargaining chip the minority can use. >> when will public discussed get to the point where they change the rules? >> that is a good question and maybe we will get to that someday. inord on the red sox victory the world series. are theed sox

champions. click 6.5 months after the boston bombing, fansook their celebration to the marathon finish line. >> it was something that people rallied around which is something that really unites the entire city on a regular day. >> a wonderful touch. the story begins after a miserable 2012 season, the lousiest season and 47 years. >> a terrible season. what they did was very simple. they unloaded their prima donnas and said them to los angeles. overachievingse neymen players. spend with an open checkbook and they put together the chemistry. on the field they played well. they were the best team in baseball. >> there is a lesson in
